Give the gift of flight

Stuck for a birthday gift? Need to say ‘I love you’? With Christmas just around the corner no other gift will get someone’s heart pumping more than when they open up a card and see a skydiving voucher inside! Get their adrenal system pumping with a healthy dose of norepinephrine and dopamine with a gift through us =] because nothing says ‘I love you’ more than buying a ticket to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

Do it SOLO

So you have a friend, brother, mother, sister, cousin or dad that wants to learn to fly solo – that’s PERFECT! =] Bring them down here to Skydive Oz where they can learn the basics of flight including safety procedures, starting with a day of ground training followed by 15 skydives in our ‘A’ licence package. They can be flying completely solo in less than a week. This is a gift of a lifetime and the start of a brand new addiction.

Do it TANDEM

If a solo skydive is not on the list -yet- provide them with a taste. Jump from 10, 14 or 15,000ft strapped to one of our highly trained and experienced instructors. Enjoy the view while they do all the work. And if you’re a skydiver then lucky you, if you book a tandem with us you can enjoy a FREE jump with that tandem! 🙂 Just be sure to mention this when you call.

Why choose a skydive as a gift?

Why not?
Skydiving is on the bucket list for many but a few people just need that little extra push – pun intended. If you have ever visited us and seen the skydivers as they glide above the sky over the beach then i’m sure you’ve seen the many spectators sprawled along the sand all looking up at the sky in absolute awe. So, if it looks that amazing from the ground imagine what it FEELS like up there. Life is meant to be experienced and feeling that wind hit your skin at absolutely insane speeds is purely breath taking. You see the world from a completely different view and there are no windows to hinder that feeling here, just you. Your body. Click here to check out the voucher options.

Skydive at night

Twilight Bliss (Night Jumps)

If you’ve ever been to Vegas, walked the streets of Sydney’s Vivid festival or just stayed in a super tall hotel overnight I’m sure you’ve been captivated by the lights below. Why are we so drawn to the sparkly shiny lights? Why should skydiving be an exception to this pleasure? Well friends, here at Skydive Oz it’s not. Welcome to night jumps!

Can I go Tandem?

Sure thing, simply contact the office and make sure you’re booked in. It’s $100 deposit and standard Tandem Rates for Batemans Bay.

What you need

First of all you’ll need to hold a C class skydive license or above to participate. Sorry newbies! Have a think about how little 50 landings are – do you think you’re ready to do it in the dark yet? If you’ve got close to 100 jumps and are adequately skilled – your drop zone safety officer may give you the OK. You’ll also need your own glow power so stock up on some glow sticks and flashing goodies. Grab some glow packets from the $2 store and a decent wearable torch. Other night skydive mandatory requirements include an altimeter with a backlight and an audible altimeter.

How it works

Another requirement is that you must be present on the day of our event to do at least one jump during the day. This is just so we can assess you and give you the green light to go ahead. If you don’t know when we hold our night jumps get on our Facebook page right now and like it! It’s the best and easiest way to keep up to date with all of our events. The landing area will be well lit. We have a fire to warm you up after each jump and you can enjoy a nice hot meal on site!

How does it look

The monthly events are usually orientated to coincide with a full moon. You can imagine how impressive it’s reflection looks casting diamonds across the ocean, out of the window of the warmly heated aircraft or as you navigate under canopy. As mentioned before if you have ever been to Vegas or stayed in a harbor view hotel, I’m sure you have spent at least one moment gazing out to the lights below. Though, from here in the sky, you are soaring above the world and seeing it from a whole new perspective.

Jump into the darkness

Take a deep breath and enjoy the distant lights of Batemans Bay and Moruya and the illuminated airstrip below you.
As always the thrill does not stop here. Once you complete a few solo jumps you can start to think about sharing that twilight freefall bliss with others. Do some relative work and you could eventually be part of something awesome like this:
Experience free fall at night

At Skydive Oz the fun never ends, just come and spend some time with us and you’ll soon see for yourself. If you start to feel that the ecstasy of jumping out of an airplane is no longer enough. Satisfy your thirst and hunger for adrenaline, come to out next twilight event. I guarantee you’ll feel that buzz and those butterflies again. Indoor Diving Sydney

Hola little adrenalin junkies, I assume the title of this piece has captured your attention because you either don’t know about free flying or you’re about to start free flying – However, I might be completely wrong here and you could be a total boss. Either way, welcome! Below you will find some handy information that you may or may not already know about your adventure, we also have coaches on hand for when you’re in the sky and for the tunnel. AKA: Indoor skydiving Sydney. The sky is a big, big place filled with many things to learn and try. Are you ready for it?

What the heck is free flying?

For those that are still scratching their heads, free-flying is when you begin to move your body in a controlled manner- that is not in a belly to earth orientation. You are – as the name suggests – flying freely. You can see the power rangers do some freestyle free flying here (link).
though you may not be ready for the snowboard, the rest of the stuff is very much learn-able…

Skills

Before you start, you’ll need to have a B class license or above. If things are still a bit hectic for you in the sky try a few more jumps on your belly and pay close attention to how the wind is feeling on your body and what it is doing. Familiarize yourself with that before you decide to start moving your limbs around in foreign places.

Achieving your star crest is another good skill to have, if you don’t know what achieving your star crest means; keep your eyes peeled on this blog – I’ll be posting one soon.
PS: if you’re a little nervous and want to have a taster to see how you go take a visit the windy tube (iFly, indoor skydiving Sydney.) (link) Disclaimer: flyer is a pro at indoor skydiving Sydney.

I’m ready

Are you? Are you sure you’re ready to dive into the extreme awesomeness of dancing, tumbling and experimenting in the sky? I believe you. However, it’s a good idea to get a hold of a Free Fly coach with a certified Tudor rating. There’s also a progression table that they take you through that will, hopefully, make learning run smoother for you. Your coach will be able to sit and chat with you about your achievements as well as help you understand your struggles.

Oh! And you’ll need an audible altimeter; otherwise, there will be no flying in the ‘free’ sense for you. I also suggest getting your gear checked by your DZSO to make sure it’s free fly friendly. Most containers made nowadays are, but it’s always nice to have something checked by another set of- experienced- eyes that might pick up on something like replacing your hackey with a pud or fixing up a sloppy BOC that could potentially cause a preemie as your fall speed has increased.

Do such sky gods exist?

Of course! Watch some videos and educate yourself whilst finding a style of flying that inspires you. You may enjoy dynamic 4-ways or solo freestylers. Whatever your flavor, you will soon discover that you have your own unique style too but it’s always nice to aspire to something and try to replicate it for yourself. Check out my coach in all his freestyle glory here.

I hope this post has inspired you to try something new or be passionate about what you are already trying. If you decide to dive into free flying – pun intended – I hope you find the feeling of freedom in it and always remember that like everything else in skydiving, it is a learning process. Keep trying until you get it right! The only way to be really good at something is to remain passionate.
