Australian Skydive Licenses Explained

Getting into Skydiving can be fairly daunting, however at some point in time you’ve come to the decision that it’s an excellent idea to get into an aircraft and then jump out of it. Now there’s the rules and regulations. To help you out, we’ve created a rough summary of the licenses available and their order of progression. We’ve included the basics of what you need to achieve these licences and what you are then permitted to do once qualified.

‘A’ License

What you are licensed to do with an A license:
Skydive solo or skydive with a skydiving coach. (Exit the aircraft and free-fall by yourself or with a coach)
The Australian APF ‘A’ Licenses are also internationally recognised – therefore most sport skydiving drop zones will accept A-license skydivers.

The Requirements:

1. Successfully Completed your AFF stages – CLICK HERE to see what they are. 2. Have completed and passed the written assessment 3. Land within 30m of the designated target in landing area 10x times, unassisted. Our ‘A-License’ Package is designed to included all you need to obtain your license, with accommodation and food inclusive.

A License + B-Rels

(B Licence coached jumps) What you are licensed to do with an A license + Completed B Licence coached jumps: You’ve got the basics down pat, now it’s time to skydive with up to 3 others (Exit the aircraft and free-fall with up to 3 other skydivers)

The Requirements:

B License

What you are licensed to do with a B license:
Skydive with others (Exit the aircraft and freefall with others – MAX. 10 ways).
Commence Free-Fly training.
At Skydive Oz you’re required to wear a flotation device until you have your B license.

The Requirements:

1. A license. (or equivalent) 2. Successfully Completed your B-Rels. 3. 7x nominated landings within 25m of the target. Sign up for our B License package and save!

B License + Star Crest

What you are licensed to do with a B license + Star Crest: Skydive with a group of more than 10 other skydivers.


1. Get your Certificate Class B.
2. Three separate, successful eight – ten-way formations (You need to join the formation fifth or later).

NB: Once you have achieved your A & B licenses – we recommend you do at least 20 skydives practicing 4-6 way formations to hone in your skills in preparation for the larger formations.

C License

What you are licensed to do with a C license: Skydive at night (training required). Skydive with a camera / Go-Pro (DZSO approval required) It is not mandatory to wear a helmet. Freefall/film others doing a Tandem Skydive Skydive above 15,000ft with Oxygen. Skydive in up to 25knts winds.

The Requirements:

1. B license.
2. Achieved 100 Freefalls
3. 20x landings within 10M of the target.
4. 5x consecutively nominated landings within 20m of the target.


D License

What are you licensed to do with a D license:
Attend a ‘first flight’ wingsuit course.
Train to become a B-Rel coach.

The Requirements:

1. C license.
2. Achieved 200 Freefalls
3. 20x landings within 5M of the target.


E License

What you are licensed to do with an E license:
You’ve come so far, you should now be ready to train to become a Tandem Skydive Instructor, an AFF Skydive Instructor and to Train to become a wingsuit coach.

The Requirements:

1. D license.
2. To have achieved 500 Freefalls
3. 20x landings within 1M of the target.

How to get here from Canberra

If you’re wanting to take a break from the view of the parliament house and enjoy some beachside scenery, we’re here to help you find it! Whether you’re thinking about starting your skydiving journey through our AFF course, using that spontaneous birthday gift voucher given to you by your girlfriend or just coming by to spend some time with us and watch people glide their canopies above the coast to land on the beach, I assume you’ve clicked on this link because you have no idea how to get here!

Where are we?

Moruya Airport,NSW, 2537 Australia.
Skydive Oz is located right on the beautiful south coast of NSW Australia near an enchanting little town called Moruya. If you know where Batemans Bay is keep heading south for about 20minutes to the airport, you’ll see us – just look for colourful canopies in the sky. However, if you’re up to date with technology and have a reliable GPS just type in ‘Moruya Airport NSW’ and it should bring you straight here. If you’re already a skydiver you’ve probably heard people refer to us as ‘the moo’.

Coming from overseas?

We can’t wait to meet you! Hopefully your flight to Canberra won’t be a long one but if it is I promise the breathtaking view of our coastline under canopy is worth every bit of travel. Canberra is fairly close to us, so a bus or car trip will get you here. That means, once you land in Canberra seated and buckled in the plane, try to contain your excitement knowing that the next flight you’re on, you will be jumping out a plane with us!

If you’re driving, you can step into the 21st century and use the details listed above to make your way here (GPS). Otherwise there is are a couple of brilliant transportation services called:

The Bus

Murrays Bus Service & Rixons Bus Service provide a bus trips from Canberra airport to Moruya and will only set you back about $30 one way. You’ll be here about 3.5 hours after boarding and it’s available 7 days a week both morning and afternoon.

Price – Apprx. $30 one way
Duration – 3.5 hrs
Availability – 7 days a week both morning and afternoon.

Car hire

If you plan to stay with us a while and need the freedom of your own ride you can also hire a vehicle from www.airportrentals.com
Price: Usually start around AU$200-400 for 7 days. Your age does affect the price rates due to insurance (hopefully you have a good driving record too).
Duration: Approx. 3 hour’s drive.
Availability: 7 days a week – Morning and evening.

Check out our sport skydivers page to see our newly furbished rooms right here on the drop zone, where you’ll meet other adventurers and adrenaline junkies just like you. When you arrive be sure to meet Jedi… (the dog) – he uses the force.
Sleeping at the DZ also means you’ll be making the first load up to greet the sun from 14,000ft every morning during your stay! and not to mention the parties by the fire at night – be prepared for your life to change.

If you’re reading this in Summer you’ve decided to find us at the PERFECT time. Bring your surfboard! It’s just a 5 minute walk to the beach from the DZ.
